Ridgeway latest

Software and location GPS tests for Creative Wiltshire’s FayGodwin/Ridgeway are under way. As the winter solstice sun rose, a team of walkers gathered at Barbury Castle  and then set off for the Sanctuary at Overton along the Ridgeway. The team was drawn from the growing network of digital artists, creatives and walkers supporting the project.

The purpose of the walk was to test a GPS linked app and to define zones for clustering images. The app will ultimately provide an audio experience for those walking this part of the Ridgeway linked to the points in the landscape where the images have been clustered. The clustered images will be curated for display with soundscapes created from location recordings at the forthcoming installation in Trowbridge.

The 3G signal was strong enough to provide accurate GPS along this section of the walk, successfully triggering the audio samples at the key points. The zones for clustering images for this section have been identified. Over the winter holiday producer/curator Richard White has set up a Flickr group to which all are invited to subscribe and contribute images, there is also a wiki providing an ongoing report and resource for the project.
