Making Art with Politics: Installation workshops in South Wirral

Lorna Brunstein was commissioned to devise activity to transform the school around a theme of politics. She was invited to provide an insight into the creative process of an installation artist. The plan was to equip a core group of staff and students with the skills and techniques to enable them to continue to co-devise, develop and build their own installations. Over two intensive days the Wiltshire team set out to demonstrate the value of imagination and creativity as essential life skills through devising and helping create an installation.

It was an inspirational experience for staff students and visitors.

“An absolutely amazing experience, taking you completely out of your comfort zone”

“ Thank you ... for making me realise ’nothing is impossible’”

Head of RE Rebecca Ruddock

Head of Drama Matt Hardacre noted the positive impact the installation had on the Cre8 festival it was part of:  it was ‘fantastic to watch parents and teachers exploring the new space”.  He enjoyed the risk taking elements “doing something new and different” and saw “new connections being made across the school”

The school students were very positive about the experience saying that they had learned new technical and creative skills. They were inspired to find out about other installation artists, working on their own designs they loved the independence the project gave them. They liked “being creative and imaginative” and “going round the school with a video camera” .
